Skin Drink.

If you read some of my posts from last summer you know I touched on what you put in your body has a lot to do with your skin. Now I'm no dermatologists but I am very anal when it comes to skin care so maybe you can call me a self proclaimed dermatologist.

I have talked openly about my skin problems, I went from no acne as a teen to adult acne with a side of blemishes. So, I had to learn its not only what you put on the surface of your skin that helps but what you put inside your body is important also.

Adult acne called for major diet change which included: water ( more of it), vegetables, fruit and a cut out of my favorite foods ( fried foods). Now I'm not saying that I eat like a vegan, I still enjoy my favorites (but not so good for you) foods in moderation. But I have included a more healthier approach for the sake of my skin and body.

My current skin drink is a ginger, aloe and lemon shot. Believe it or not, its not terrible a little spicy but not terrible! If you are wondering the benefits here they are....Ginger contains 40 antioxidants that helps prevent damage and protects the skin against aging. It it improves elasticity and evens the skin tone. Lemons are rich in vitamin C and citric acid, which helps brighten the skin. Aloe is your healing agent, it contains Auxin and Gibberellins. The two hormones provide wound healing and anti- inflammatory.

In a nutshell I'm not saying that this will solve all your skin issues and I'm not saying your skin will be crystal clear in 2.5 seconds. But it will help from the inside out.

Nailed it

Okay ladies....I have a confession to make. I have been writing for you guys for MONTHS yet I have never expressed  my need.. scratch that my obsession with beautiful nails.I know that may sound very strange and unimportant but it's the truth! I don't feel like myself if my nails aren't done. Whether it be OPI or Essie my nails have been in a whirlwind romance with nail polish since the beginning of time.

One thing I love about the changing seasons is the fact that I can switch up my polish. In the in winter  I tend to go for darker colors, you know like deep reds, browns, blues and so on so forth. In the summer I'm more of a color pop girl. I love bright neon pinks, yellows, oranges and my all time favorite Funny Bunny. I'm usually a minimalist when it comes to getting my nails done but sometimes I like to mix it up with some nail art, with my girl Spifster. But that's only when I'm feeling sassy lol!  One of the best feelings in the world to me is walking out of the nail shop with freshly manicured nails. Below are some of my FAVORITE polishes. Get your nails done before the weekend rolls around ladies!

Oiled up

Anyone who knows me knows how much I value a BEAT face. However, I feel as if you, my loyal Lo' Catter's, aren't aware of how much I also value  healthy and vibrant MAKE-UP FREE skin. I'm a firm believer that flawless skin is the best accessory a woman can have and as a make-up lover it's so important that I take care of  my skin so that when I don't wear make-upI don't look insane.

Personally, I've always been an advocate for a to die for moisturizer and over the years I've tried the good and the bad. However, nothing quite does the trick for me  like an all natural face oil. I know what you're thinking... OIL, won' that clog my pores? Well.. no!  Natural oils help lock in moisture which in turn will help stop the over-production of oil which usually leads to a shiny nose and t-zone area. In actuality, not putting on natural oils can cause break outs because your pores begin to create more oil from the lack of moisture. Jojoba oil, Grapeseed oil and Lavender oil are three essentials you ladies should know about and use.

Jojoba Oil

The antibacterial  and anti-inflammatory  properties in this oil help fight  bacterial growth and reduce redness and swelling. Jojoba oil works to  deeply cleanse your pores, unclogging them from impurities and on top of all that Jojoba oil is a great moisturizer. Because this oil also helps fight acne you can use it at night and in the morning.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil contains linoleic acid which strengthens cell membranes and increases the overall quality of your skin! Grapeeed oil can also help regulate your natural oil production..so basically if you have oily skin Grapessed oil is exactly what you need! Grapeseed oil is exactly what you need on your face in the morning.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil helps control control sebum production, soothes irritated skin and and is also used to clear up scarring. Different from the two oils mentioned above  lavender oil can also be mixed with castor oil to create a bomb moisturizer. Alone, Lavender oil can be too harsh to put all over your face. This oil can  be used at night as well as in the morning.

Now I will say this, if you over use these oils then yes you will clog your pores. Therefor it's important that you use a small amount of oil to moisturize your face in the morning and before bed, a little goes a long way. Also another key to helping keep your pores unclogged is to EXFOLIATE. Although exfoliation  is super beneficial and a major key in having glowing skin remember not to over due it. You don't want to irritate you skin, like the oils a little goes a long way with exfoliation.

The High LIGHT

Ladies can I  be real for a second? I love makeup. I love how it makes people feel. I love buying it.  I love the process of putting on my makeup and  getting all glammed out for a night on the town. I mean, honestly, how could I be a fashion/beauty blogger and not be interested in makeup?...EXACTLY lol. Well,  for my first beauty post of the year I've decided to talk about one of my favorite makeup items...HIGHLIGHTER. Yes ladies, my face is not fully beat until I have that shimmer on my cheekbones and plus, I can't do eyeshadow to save my life! So the face has to be RIGHT!

Some of my favorite highlighters are Global Glow by Mac,  Lorac Tantalizer and  Uran Decay's Naked Illuminated. I love these highlighters because a little goes a long way with them. I've never been one to pile makeup on my face so the fact that I'm able to put a little of either one of these's highlighters on my face and still have my cheekbones poppin amazes me.

When I want an extra glow I simply spray my brush with my Mac Setting Spray, sweep some highlighter on the brush and then apply it. It allows the pigments to come out just a little bit more luminous and I spay my face after! Talk about an extra POP!

All of these products are available at Sephora so if you want a to die for highlighter go grab one of the one's mentioned above!

Lushing over LUSH!

It's no secret how obsessed I am with LUSH. I mean who doesn't love fresh, hand made, organic products! I know I do! Lush Cosmetics came in SOO clutch this past weekend. They sent me a care package just so I could test out a couple of their new and most sought after products. I'll post a review of the products within a  week or two. Until then, I have posted a list of the products  below where you can click and shop til you drop!!:)

Hydration Boost!

There is nothing worse than buying products that don't work on your skin and lets face it we have ALL been down that road. I have tried product after product to learn what works best for my skin during each season of the year.

We have all heard the story " using non oil free products can break you out". Well that's actually not true, I have oily skin and I was always told I need to dry it out, especially during the summer, to stop the breakouts. When in reality breakouts can stem from not giving your skin that drink of water, aka moisture, it needs.

If you don't give your skin the hydration it needs it works overtime to produce natural oils, which causes breakouts! Not hydrating your skin is basically equivalent to not putting premium gas in a foreign car! Huge mistake.....you can mess up your engine aka your skin. In other words, if you don't want to mess that gorgeous face up HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE .

I personally hydrate my skin with  the Marula Oil and Gorgeous Facial Moisturizer by LUSH. These two products have been my saving grace since the winter...and  have helped repair my blemishes beyond belief . Alongside these products I am also big on steaming my face. You can either purchase a steamer ooorrrr get a pot, fill it with water, place it on a stove and once it cools a little allow the steam to hit your face, if you want to be cost efficient.

Did You Feel That?!?!

Okay now.....Lately I have been working so hard on my skin. It wasn't until I turned 20 I had my first breakout, I went through puberty and all that and not a single blemish or pimple and then all of a sudden life hit me in the face ( LITERALLY).

I know I told you guys how much I love charcoal, but the truth is I am OBSESSED WITH IT! Glam Glow Mud Charcoal Mask has saved me from many under the skin pimples and when those unwanted white and blackheads pop up. Nothing does the trick like that mask for me, now I'm no dermatologist but listen.... the moment I feel a pimple I put that mask on it at night. Night time is the best time to treat your skin. Your skin cells repair when your body is at rest, so treating it at night is essential.

Short of the long...Last night a pimple called itself trying to grow on my face so I slapped Glam Glow on at night. And yes it stayed on all night! LOL!

Get you some!

Beauty Saturday!!!

It's my favorite time of the month....not really but there is nothing wrong with doing a little beauty haul damage. This place is like Target, you know you go in needing one thing but come out with 5-10 things lol..

That's ULTA for me..lawwwdddddd I went in for bronzer and came out with moisturizer, mascara, and more tinted moisturizer. Granted I needed the tinted moisturizer but the other two items I did not. I guess I need to practice more self control huh lol.

Let's just hope I do not have to go back...lord knows I will convince myself to purchase something! Happy Saturday:)

Almost Bare

With the first day of summer behind us, let's chat about makeup. When it's hot I have a foundation-phobia. I don't want to wear it, look at it, clean a brush..nothing, nada, none of it!

I was a girl who wasn't into makeup just into great skin care until I went to college. I thought I was soooo grown and just had to be so fine all the time! Lol. I just didn't want the unnatural look. So I turned to tinted moisturizer and oh boy did it change my life. It's been my go to for the past 5 years when I want the less is more look.

Fast forward to now, everyone is into the tinted moisturizers, bb and cc creams. It's our way of using moisturizer, foundation and spf (which we all need!).

Whoever came up with this concept..THANK YOU! I feel real when.. I'm almost bare.

That Glow!

It seems that summer is finally here, thank you LORDT!!! I know, I know we all want that naturally flawless skin. But let’s face it, it is not that easy for some of us(I know for sure it isn’t easy for me) to achieve. But what I know to be true (time to go to school y’all ) you really have to take care of your skin from the inside out.  My latest beauty craze has been very basic! Starting from what I put in my body to what I do on the outside…..

I said take care of the inside for the outside, right? As we all know we should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.. Well I hate to break it to you, we really should be drinking according to our body weight. Here’s how you figure that out, multiply your body weight by 67% and you’ll get your ounces.

I know that’s a lot of ounces but I have an alternative for those who cannot drink liquid without taste. Two words DETOX WATER! My favorite is lemon, cucumber and mint; you cannot go wrong with that one. Detox water has so many benefits, it helps keeps your tummy flat too!!!!

The green smoothie!!!! When I tell you, this one may be my favorite! From it being my meal replacement, getting my daily dosage of fruits and veggies and what it does to my skin!! What I put in mine you might ask… spinach, kale, green apple, frozen greek yogurt ( 1 ½ scoop), pineapple and ginger root.

Finally, I really saved the most instesting for the last!!!! Drum roll please!!!!!!!!!!! Activated charcoal and Lemon and yes its black. I call it black water, and it is beyond tasty! Charcoal is great for masks but even better when you drink it. I won’t go into the extream details BUT just know its great!

I WOKE UP LIKE THISSSS..WE FLAWLESS! I promise to keep this short lol! Ocean Salt scrub (Lush ) has been my life saver! From the natural ingredients to the oils and salt! Just know it’s a win!

Glam Glow charcoal mask! Great for those stubborn pimples under the skin and great to bring out the impurities! I told you charcoal is the shiz-ni-ee (Scrappy voice).

Bliss triple oxygen mask! I’ve sworn by this for the past 3 years! When I say THAT GLOW, honey I mean THAT GLOW! From the tingling feeling to the stardust it leaves on your smooth face! I truly glow from this, and I’ve heard all the stars use it to give them that fresh face look on the red carpet! Thank me later lol!

MOISTURIZER! The most important! No matter if you have oily skin you still need it! I use Vanishing Cream (Lush) its light and it gives my skin that drink of water ( and I have oily skin). It’s a must so your skin does not over work itself to produce oils and cause more breakouts.

GET YOUR GLOW ON!
